On 1841 census I have found a Harriet Hambly aged 6 years living Kilkhampton Cornwall with father John and mother Grace. In 1871 I have found Harriet Hambly aged 26 years living with widowed father John and I think her illegitamate daughter Rebecca aged 9 still at Kilkhampton. Between 1841 and 1871 is 30 years so by my adding she should be 36 not 26. Is there anyone kind enough to have a look at Parish records to see if they can find a birth or baptism of Harriet about 1835 and for Rebecca Hambly born 1861. Regards Ellen

She's on http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.*com/~kayhin/61512.html (remove *) Folio 5 Page 4 21,,1,John Hambly,Head,M,64,,Ag Laborer,Woolwich London,, ,,,Grace Hambly,Wife,M,,66,,Bridgerule Devon,, ,,,Harriett Hambly,Dau,U,,24,Dress Maker,Kilkhampton Cornwall,, ,,,John Henry Hambly,Grnson,,13,,Cordwainer,Kilkhampton Cornwall Might be worth asking the transcribers of 1871 to have another look to see if it's 36 not 26, given the other info. Script 2 & 3 can look very similar. in 1891 (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.*com/~kayhin/1796.html) this one's just possible, although birthplace has moved: Folio 53 Page 3 18,Eastcott,1,Harriet Hambly,Head,S,,60,Housekeeper Dom,,Morwenstow Cornwall,, ,,,Thomas Hambly,Son,S,31,,Farm Labourer,Employed,Bradworthy Devon,, ,,,Emma Jane Littlejohns,Vstr,S,,32,Living On Her Own Means,,Morwenstow Cornwall,, (Incidentally - there are suddenly millions of Hamblys on this census!) Hi Jess Thanks for taking a look at the age for me. It's a puzzle why there is a 10 year gap in age, maybe she did it so it people didn't know she was only 15 when she had Rebecca. Regards Ellen
