Free On-line Census

I dont know whether this is new and of any interest, but I have just seen on the National Archives site that it will be possible to view the 1871, 1881 and 1891 census for free at Kew and the Family Records Centre, Myddleton St. Islington. G

Hi As far as I know its always been possible to obtain census information free at the Family Record ctr in london cost is for photo copies, I think about 50p each, can`t remember now, my son obtained masses of census for me from 1841 up to 1891 some years ago, only cost was as mentioned, for photocopying I know he used to moan a bit about searching through the microfiche and what a bore it was! so perhaps its now on line there and should be easier than microfiche

Is it at the record centres or ON-Line, or both? A lot of less money to spend now! YIPEE!! :)))))))))))

As far as I know the FRC only has the 1901 on microfiche as well as the online site. The rest are on microfilm. But I think they are making Ancestry online censuses available free. Sometimes its easier, but often when a person or place has been mistranscribed its simpler to go through the whole census for the area - and that way you pick up other relatives/in-laws too. nell

On Saturday, their website was saying this service would be available on 4th April. It was originally promised for February.
