If you google Duke of Buccleugh you will find websites which will tell you where the Estate Papers are kept, but no you will not find the Estate Papers on line! These estate papers could be in any County Record Office anywhere as he had many estates to include one in Northants. Janet

Hi Dawn, I will stand corrected.but most important people of title,do have their own inhouse household archives, names of employees, for wage purposes, job title.I know Castle Howard do,Howarth House, and many more.or try the Local Archives neares to where it was. How you would access these,I dont know, but worth asking PRO at Kew,if anything has been passed onto them, but seeing as its Scotland you may have to search there. kay

I think all you can try is googling the household to see if there is a site for them and then checking if there are any archives to do with servants.

My gggrandfather who was born in Selkirk Scotland apparently worked in Bowhill House for the Duke and Duchess of Bucleugh during the early 1900's. I have him on the 1901 census in Scotland down as a 'Groom' with his family. Is there any records available online to support this story. Dawn
