CD's that come with FTM2005 - are they any use?

hi Karen, The instructions for each disc are on the left hand side of the label. Either says 'to install this program....' or view this cd from the FTM program. Hope that helps Debbie

I have the FTM 2005 Deluxe edition with 5 CDs and frankly they have been pretty much useless for my purposes as far as the data is concerned, and are generally hard to access by today's standards. Cheers, Bill Sydney, Australia

I've ended up with three different viewers to access the discs that don't view straight from the ftm programme. Really can't understand why they can't all be viewed from the same programme. I ended up e mailling support and must admit did get a reply very fast and it was the day after boxing day. Basically told me the same as people on here. I really need to get all my papers in order and sort everything out at the moment. seem to get a big glut of it all every now and then.

What surprised me was that when I loaded FTM2005 it 'took over' my current viewer for my 1851 disc. I just need to go to 'view' from the programme and click on CD DATA. Expected it to be the same with these CD's that came with the package but it seems to have installed an 'ancestry viewer'. Has anyone else found any reference to the CD's in the manuals?

I've got the collectors edition and have to admit to not really playing with them yet. But after a lot of toing and froing at least three of them only run via the FTM programme. Took ages to sort it all out, and with some help on here too. Talk about make it hard.

Tracy - I did see a thread a while back recommending someone buy the basic version as the CD's were not up to much, I'd forgotten about them in my excitement of signing up to Ancestry and unless someone already knows what use they are I think I may give up trying to use them. Debby - call me what you like, most people do! My trick is that I order my own Xmas/b'day pressies and tell hubby to wrap them!

Debby - mine was an Xmas pressie and only looked at them today, so you have months of grace yet!!

I have been given the FTM2005 collectors edition which comes with 11 CD's of info. I've had a look at a few - the Scottish Parish records for one which doesn't seem to tell me anything much. If I search on a name it lists a few with codes after them. Are these like an index? Also looked at 1851 which crashed the Ancestry viewer that had automatically loaded with the first CD. There seems to be no explanatory documents with the CD's or am I missing it.? My question is, is there anything on these CD's that isn't available on say Ancestry and other sites. I have the 1851 UK census on CD as well as 1891 census and BVRI v.2. ??? Is it worth the hassle of trying to get the viewer to work again and to look at all the CD's?
