Brenda - Thank you, the two sets are confusing me, but as I type out some parishes for people I'm getting used to it now. |

ps I think OR is original registers, as opposed to TS for transcript etc |

For reasons best known to themselves, the NIPR volumes often have TWO sets of abbreviations: one for the standard abbreviations and the other for those peculiar to the county. They never seem to be in particularly logical places. Having said that, I love these books because they are so comprehensive. Much more useful than, say, the Phillimore Atlas. |

Jane - thanks, under the Bishops Trancripts paragraph they are referred to as BT - so likely to be that, I was looking under the abreviations table only |

Hi I think BT might be Bishop's Transcripts? Thanks Jane |

I have just received the National Index of Parish Registers for Hertforshire. There are a couple of abbreviations used quite a lot which are not in the abbreviation lists and wondered if they were common to other indexs and someone might confirm their meaning. theya are OR and BT - I though Original Record and Birth but would like confirmation please. PS: I will look up parishes for anyone interested |
