I know it was and still is legal for first cousins to marry and I know they can do this in a church but I am not totally sure as to whether or not the catholic church had a problem with it or not. I do think though that its more likely to be the fact that she was 8 months pregnant. I do know the Catholic church took a very dim view of things like that. Shaz xx

I know they went on to have two children baptised in a Catholic Church, all this occurred in the 1910s. Both the Bride and Groom were raised as Catholics. George

in 1930 my nan couldn't marry in a catholic church, as she was pregnant, and he was also church of england. The marriage wasn't recognised by the church, as they wed in a registry office, when they divorced 40 years later the church didn't recognise that either as they weren't married in their eyes. Sorry can't answer about the 1st cousins marrying, whether its recognised or not. but i have alot of 1st cousins marrying in c of e so it is legal. hope some of this helps sandra

Did the following prevent a couple marrying in a Catholic Church: 1) Bride being 8mths pregnant 2) Bride & Groom being first cousins If a couple did not marry in a Catholic church would this mean the church & the relatives of the couple would not recognise the marriage. George
