Helen There's two places which might be able to help you - one is Islington Local History Centre, which you need to make an appointment to visit. It is conveniently 5 minutes' walk from the Family Records Centre. The other is the Marx Memorial Library in Clerkenwell Green. Google to find their websites. nell

Have a google for info. Most people were socialists in that area at that time! My father was a socialist all his life, as were many dock workers. From what I can remember, dad used to have a paper called the Socialist Worker.

My great grandfather, George Hayward, was apparently a bit of a socialist, organising marches, meetings and the like during the end of the 19th century in and around the Clerkenwell and Homerton areas of London. The story goes that he use to either publish or write for a magazine/newpaper at the time and I wonder if anyone could advise if it might be possible to find out which magazine it was and see a copy? Many thanks Helen
