Hi Julie, Thanks for your suggestion. I will first need to learn the name of the deceased and the date, hopefully with the help of the Runcorn Press or historical society. Thanks, Frank

Hi Frank If you can find a ref for death cert, id order that, it will give details of death and where the inquest was held. You might then be able to trace the inquest papers Julie

Thanks Peter, If I don't get a more direct hit on this one, (and even if I do) I'll give them a try. My guess is that the relevant years would be 1885 to 1889. Regards, Frank

If you contact The Runcorn & Widnes Weekly News. And the Runcorn world Both on line, they should be able to tell you if they have an Archive site or might even look it up for you.

No I haven't tried looking at local papers. Like I said, I don't live anywhere near Runcorn. I have walking difficulties and it would be an ordeal to go there, even if I knew where I was going.

This is a long shot, but here goes. An uncle of mine many years ago told me that my great grandmother had some association with a church bellringer from Runcorn (don't know his name). The sad result, so the story goes was that he hung himself from the bell ropes. Now I thought he was joking so I forgot all about it. I now find that my G Grandmother Emma Shepherd was born in 1869 in Runcorn. Could there be some truth in this after all ? I know quite a lot about Emma, who she married in 1889 (she was living in Bury in 1891) I also know when she died etc but this story intrigues me. If such an unusual event actually happenned then maybe it would be recorded in some book about Old Runcorn or some archives there. I live 80 miles away so its a bit of a trek for me. I have asked the Runcorn & District Historical society to look into this for me - so far without results. Are you from Runcorn - have you heard of this bizarre event ?
