Thank you Debby and Laird, I have printed off your answers and will use it next time I am in FMT. Thank you so much. I am new to this program too so it is trial and error at the moment. Really appreciate your answers, thank you once again. Elizabeth

Debby - absolutely worth mentioning, even pro software coders dont always do it right ! Windows intercepts a 'shut-down' (eg clicking the X on the window), and passes control to the standard exit routine for the application. If its programmed (coded) properly, it will then run the instructions it would have done if FILE and EXIT were clicked .... FT is a bit weird in some areas - like using backup files ... but overall its moved on from DOS (FTD files) to Windows proper (FT-W- files) OK.

click on the 'index cards' icon - 3rd from the right - and see if you have duplicate names. If you do, then somehow they werent realised as offspring of the couple you had on the screen ..... click menu item PEOPLE and then in the drop-down click 'FIX RELATIONSHIP' and take it from there. Or altermatively, in the PEOPLE drop-down - MERGE INDIVIDUALS. Just exiting should not be a problem - it will still go thru end-of-task housekeeping and save files.

I need some help when adding members to a family file: I added 10 children to a file yesterday and when I returned today they were not there with their parents. I then retyped in all the information, with each child I added, FMT asked me if this was so and so who belonged to so and so - yes it was, but the question I am asking where did they go to on the file, should not they have stayed in the parents file when I exit out? This has happended a few times and I do not understand what I am doing wrong, can someone please explain. Thank you. Elizabeth
