question on death??

its easy to find out how rellies died now adays with death certs being easy to get,but pre 1837 can you find out the cause of a persons death??if so how?? thanx

Hi, It's very rare to find out pre 1837 but if there is an epidemic sometimes it is noted. In the burial registers I've looked through I've seen smallpox and cholera noted next to some burials. If it was notable you also may get a reference. I've seen 'struck down in the road by a robber', 'perished in a fire', that sort of thing. Gwynne
