Running out of Paternal rels Scotland; how do I se

Greetings:) I've managed to to run out of paternal ancestors in Scotland using Scotlandspeople. I need to start searching in Ireland but don't know where to begin. The surname is McKenna and the last one I have in Scotland, Charles McKenna 1831-1875, died in Scotland but was born in Ireland ( don't know where; his parents were James & Sarah according to his death cert. ) Larry TIA

Hi Lawrence, Put irish bmd into the search box on this board. There are many members looking in Ireland, it maybe of some help. :-) Mel in Oz.

Not to be gloomy but I doubt whether you'll get back much further. Even the most hardcore Irish researchers rarely get to dip their toes in the eighteenth century.

Hi Lawrence, Like you, I have exhausted my Scots heritage trail and must now embark on a voyage into the nightmare that is Irish Genealogy. This is something I have dreaded for a number of years. A couple of hours ago I read June Dalton's thread on Irish Parish Maps and Townlands. You have to have a look. I accessed it through Google - The Irish Times - Ancestry. If you give your family name they can tell you which areas that name was most commonly found as well as many other useful bits of info. At least it's a start. Good Luck, Christine.
