Help with birth certificate - Home Duties???

Thanks for this ... I'm not sure that's it - she was living at home with her parents - she was a 'single mum'. I've never come across this before??

I've googled and this seems to be an exclusively female occupation. I wonder if it was just another way of saying 'housewife', I have found a document from the Tasmanian government saying that this and housewife can be used to describe women on certificates if they are also married. nell

Hi, I have just obtained my mum's birth certificate (she was adopted and this is the one relating to her biological mother). Under mother's name it states the name and then in brackets says (Home Duties) followed by the address. Does anyone know what the (Home Duties) means? The year of birth was 1946 so we are wondering if it has anything to do with the war? Any help appreciated. Thanks, Katy
