Paying for Ancestry!!!

I think it depends what type of debit card. Cirrus/Maestro or Switch and Solo or Electron cannot be used. Visa Delta can. This seems to be normal. My daughter only has a switch card and cannot pay for her AOL subs with that. I pay with my Visa debit card and she gives me the money back. As for not getting your money back when cancelling subs to Ancestry? I dont understand why anyone would want to cancel. I find it invaluable and am always using it. It works out much cheaper than any other site. Margaret

Hi linda Not sure I've understood this, I'm at work, so only time for a quick read, but I paid for Ancestry using a Debit Card and had no problem with it. Bev

zCould someone please give the addresses for both the US and English versions of Ancestry. Thanks

Thank's everyone for your responses to my query. When I went onto the payment details for Ancestry they used Mastercard and Visa, and my debit card has Cirrus and Maestro, so I couldn't use it.

I used my debit card to pay for Ancestry... was a while back, but it should still work.

Hi, yes I know she wants to pay for Ancestry but as they are now in partnership with GR I thought GR may be more flexible about payments.

Have you asked ancestry? I have never had any problem getting replies from them. I suspect that they will not want to set up an alternative payment system for a limited number of users. MB

I thought you could pay by cheque? Check out the terms and conditions or send GR an email.

Hi Linda, I use the American based ancestry and find quite a lot of free info there. Give it a try. Cheers Iain

When you are using this site and based overseas, as it is with me here in Australia, it makes it more expensive as I am paying more because of exchange rates. If I could use my UK debit card I would only be paying in pounds. Why can't they just use World Pay, then you can pay in the currency.

Dont you know anyone with a credit card who could do this for you and you give them the money? I wouldnt be without my Ancestry subscription, its invaluable. Margaret

Hi Linda, I have exactly the same problem and it's so frustrating isn't it?.T here are a few other other sites that only use credit cards and I don't bother to go on them now. Also that means that I occasionally ask the very kind people on here to look up for me and I feel so guilty as they are paying to give me a free look up ,bless them for their kindness. I was so excited when Genes allowed access recently to the census',but hey ho I won't be able to take up this offer ............. Upset...... Elaine

Can any one tell me if it's possible to make a payment on Ancestry WITHOUT having to use a credit card. Why can't we pay be using World Pay like you do when ordering certificates. Wouldn't be something to do with the small print telling you that your credit card will be automatically debited unless you say otherwise, would it? Why can't we use a debit card as well as credit cards? Anyone else have this problem?
