Talk to someone who might give clues to get you started. It might not make much sense but if you are told that Aunt Flo married a chap called Peter, write it down. 'Ern went down on The Hood', we were told. He didn't actually but we found him on the War graves site, lost on another ship and were told' Oh yes, that was it'..... but at least the Navy clue got us started. Are you near a main library that has the GRO on fiche? It's a long haul but we have sat for hours matching clues to facts and then buying certificates to confirm events and people. I would start with marriages of people with the most unusual names for that area. Once you know a marriage partner, you can trawl for birth registrations in that surname and after 1911 the mother's maiden name is shown on the index. This is not to say that this is positively the child of your couple, but it's a start. Alternatively, If you know of the church where they were living, you could look at parish registers, remembering that it was more usual to marry in the bride's parish, though not a definite.

Have been able to track down ancestors ok. But at the moment am looking for my great-aunties and any children they may have had. Don't know the aunties married names, so i'm struggling a bit. Any suggestions please. Thanks in advance.
