Vickie If you go to the homepage on this website you will find that there is basic info about things like census, electoral rolls, parish records etc. I didn't realise you were so far away! nell

Thanks Nell Now I have an idea what to include in my posts. Many of mine left for Australia around the early 1850s so census dates restrict me to mainly 1841, maybe 1851 for a few. Regards Vickie

Vickie Lancashire, in common with everywhere else in England and Wales, will have the census taken from 1841 to the present day every 10 years. 1841 census will give you all the names in a household but does not indicate their relationship to eachother. It also says whether or not they were born in the county, but doesn't give actual place names. 1851-1901 censuses did give this info and they are available on microfilm/fiche at the London Records Office. Lancs censuses will be at the Lancashire Records Office. Earlier censuses from 1801-1831 were taken, but they were mainly headcounts and very little has survived. You may find something at the Records Office. Additionally the records office will have street directories, old maps etc which can help in your search. They might have poor law records relating to your relatives, as well as the parish baptism, marriage and burial registers. nell
