I was browsing http://www.yorkshirebmd.org.uk for BRINE births and found this one amongst a fairly sparse list: Yorkshire Birth indexes for the years: 1918 Surname Forename(s) Sub-District Registers At Reference BRINE Gladys Wortley Leeds WORT/202/260 If not a direct-line link, there may be a connection? And, if she is yours: Yorkshire Marriage indexes for the years: 1944 Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference BRINE Gladys WILSON Henry Leeds Registered Building Leeds RB/45/A/65 looks like her marriage. Where was Percy BRINE in 1901? Can you find him with his family? Is he the butcher's boy in Hove?

If you can buy both, that's great. I would buy the marriage certificate before his birth one, working on the idea that you know who he married but are not sure about his birth. The marriage certificate giving his age and father's name and occupation will give some checking points to ensure that you buy the correct birth certificate if you are researching a common surname.

Marriage cert will give you two sets of parents.(G/grandfather also his wifes) The witnesses to the marriage may also give you another clue to other info. Birth certs will (should) give you mother and father. Get both, I would! it's your history. Good luck Gerri x

The birth cert will give his dads name and occupation and his mums maiden name and the address where he was born. The marriage cert will give his wifes maiden name and both their jobs and the names and occupations of both their fathers. Also the place the couple were living at when they married. Possibly it will also say if either dad is deceased. It will also give the name of witnesses which are often good clues.
