A number of my relatives are buried there. It is a huge cemetery. I have no trouble finding my nan and grandads grave, but some of the older graves can be really hard to find as it is quite over grown in some places and many gravestones have been damaged. What you also have to remember is that a lot of the people buried there in the 1800's/early 1900's were very poor and buried in paupers graves, with 6 or 8 (?) to a grave. These rarely have any gravestones, so are even more difficult to identify. If I can help in any way please let me know. I usually visit about three times a year. Regards. Jan

That's great help Jill, thanks. Time for the walking boots, I think. Darryl

In the past I have written to them and they were most helpful. They didn't charge me anything for a search. I went there a few weeks ago and there was a chap in the office searching through the actual buriel books so if you live anywhere near it might be worth a visit. If you've never been there, be prepared for a shock. it is enormous. There are over 2 million buried there. I couldn't find my Gran's grave even though they gave me a map showing the area it was in. I shall have to try again sometime. Next time I go I shall take the car - far too big to walk round. Jill
