Is there any where that can be checked for workers who recieved compensation for work/industrial injury? My elderly mother (she's 90) has had a memory of my father's father managing to start his own coal business because he got some compensation for a work injury. She thinks he may have been a Baker but her memory is unreliable. He was a Carman in 1901 and I am wondering if he afforded to buy a horse and cart with compensation which got his business going - so anything from that time era. People on this board are so helpful and I'm very grateful for any help you can give me. |

Josephine Ive just checked my social historys books. It would be very rare for a person to recieve any compensation for injuries. Its possable that maybe he was employed by a friend or a understanding boss who felt gulity so gave him some money. Sorry i can't be anymore help. Julie |
