Thanks Kathleen, that's why I started with the death cert (lol), all useful info though. When I've got time I might give the solicitors a ring if nothing's turned up. I've got a bunch of paperwork for about 3 transactions including my parents on the house. I also have 2 pages of a street directory for areas in Portsmouth (1898) part of Clock Street going onto streets beginning CLY through to part of Commercial Road with house owners names. All snippets for someone! Sue

Could the will and death certificate be from the person who owned the house before your parents. If so perhaps the solicitors who dealt with your parents purchase would have details of the people selling the property i.e. new address. It would be worth writing to that address, even if they have moved on since then as you could perhaps find them through a process of each move since then. I know this sounds complicated, but it's surprising what you can find with a couple of phone calls or letters!! Kath. x

Hi Kathleen, thanks for response. The certificate was attached to a will and house deeds which came with the house when my parents bought it 20yrs ago. It's a shame that they aren't relations, I would have a little bundle of info to add to my tree book!! I've got a few different names on the will but I thought I would start with the easiest info - the death cert. The will (dated 1926) might be of interest for ancestry purposes to someone if I can find them. Sue

Sue, If you found the certificate in your mum's belongings, are you sure that the person on the certificate isn't connected to your family in some way? Would seem strange for your mum to keep a copy of a death certificate if the person didn't have some connection. Kath. x

Thanks Janet I've checked for name on anyones tree. There was only one Olive but wrong birthplace for her. Will do as you suggest and add her onto my tree, just didn't want to get stuck with her on my tree when she's not related, but it's such a shame to just throw info away when it might be of use to someone. I scrape for the slightest bit of info on my lot!! Thanks again Sue

The only way would be to add her to your tree then delete her once you've put the message on. Alternitively you could do a name search to see if she is in anyones tree.

While sorting through my mums belongings I have found a photocopy of a death certificate for an Olive Hawkins (nee Hartland). I thought someone may be looking for info on her and tried to input message on trying to find board but I seem to be only able to do it if I add her to my names list which I don't want to do. Has anyone got any ideas on how to get the information out incase it's useful to someone on GR, apart from this message board?
