Bigamist - Marriage Certificate

Georgina, You should be able to find the marriage cert on 1837online. It will give the father's surname then you can use that to get his first name. Crista

Hi Helen, On her birth certificate it says father unknown from what I can gather. Canadians seem to be lacking in coming forward. Thank you Dawn and Sam for your interest. Georgie

I agree I think the record of the marriage would remain, the marriage occurred, whether it was legal or not is another matter. Sam

Georgina I don't know about the bigamy, though I will see what I can find out. Doesn't your cousin have her father's name on her birth cert, or do you mean she is trying to get in touch with him now? nell

I am trying to help a cousin find out who her dad is. She lives in Canada. Her mother married a man, got pregnant and then found out he was already married. She left him and later married again and then emigrated to Canada. If she did not report the bigamy would both marriage certificates be in FRC. Secondly, out of interest if the person was reported to the police and found guilty would the initial certificate be destroyed. Georgina
