irene i'm sure their laughing at us to, someone kindly did an 1841 census for me last night and has said he will send me the image, joseph was born c 1791 so it'll have to be a parish records hunt. This makes addison born 1826 again before bmd, i have found his death in 1878 age 51 so the 1841 census info all rings true, just the father that has thrown a spanner in the works with the australian womens research. as his sons are definately the right family. Just wish the wed cert had age instead of full age, then it wouldn't be so confusing. Still i'll get to the bottom of it sandra

Have you found Joseph's birth, it could be that was his 2nd name same as Alex. check the deaths for ages etc. They did seem to change them around. Just last month, we found another sibling for my family, we had though it was the one we found as he was going by the name John, we had a birth cert for John Edward, but my cousin then found a death. This John on 2 census were of different ages, so though the last age was right (not 1841). We have now found him as Henry John Thomas, known as John. Even had him in the Elec Rolls we collected but didn't know who he was. Another 2nd cousin who has only just found me, we didn't know where his father had gone to, no one in the family had mentioned him or this family, it turns out they lived not more than 10 miles from me. His father died in 1918. Now this 2nd cousin has gone down the wrong line, I know because I have checked out all similar names of the right age and know where they all are. I just hope I have not upset him as he has been doing this for a while, not heard from him since. I am sure they are sitting up there laughing at us. Irene

Hi yes, i've checked the bmd in australia on his 2 sons ,and the passenger list found the ships etc, and found info over here as well. addison birkbeck 2 sons Peter Tunstall Birkbeck and Simon Tunstall Birkbeck both migrated to Bathurst in Perth, from the info i got off first families they are buried in Rookwood cemetry, their was also an obituary in the paper as well. They worked on the Bathurst railway. I have about 20 pages of info that i printed off the first families. which is quite indepth. It has addison birkbeck/ mary tunstall as the parents with alexander and jane as addisons parents, it was only yesterday when i got the marriage cert and it named joseph as addison father and not alexander that it came unravelled. though alex has a brother joseph, i'm going to see if i can get the womens phone number off the white pages as she is a gr gr gr grandaughter as well. I'll get their in the end. Firstfamilies2001 is still online if you want to read everything i have, type in birkbeck, the only marriage i could find for addison birkbeck to mary tunstall was 1849 and that is the cert that says his father is joseph. The census 1871 onwards they are at the addresses this info says, so i'm sure i have the right lot except her parents are wrong. which is why the confusion sandra Sue looking forward to seeing you next sunday

Morning Sandra, Is there an Australian equivalent of 1837 that you could check? A similar thing happened to me, again from Australia. I was contacted by the wife of the family tree connection, who told me my great grandmother's name was X, I couldn't find her marriage anywhere, and then when cross referencing found she wasn't called X at all!! If you want me to ask my friend in Oz for some websites, let me know. See you on the 20th. Sue

Hi thankyou for your messages, unfortunately i haven't been able to contact the girl in australia, she isn't on genes, she was on rootsweb but has removed her info, and first families have now closed.and she hasn't answered emails. Tony thanks for the info. i have sent you my email addy. I have searched australia bmd and found some of the references for simon and peter my gr grans brothers, so i will have to order their deaths from there. I'm going to have to delve further, to see if joseph [addisons father] on the wed cert, alexander has a brother joseph i will now have to see if the family i originally had are still connected. thankyou again sandra

I'm not clear - have you been in contact with the Australian researcher, did she say where she got her information? One of my very distant relatives researched our mutual tree from New Zealand, using the IGI. Not knowing the geography he made a huge leap of faith and 'adopted' a marriage in Devon for our 3Xgt grandparents despite the fact that the children were all born in London and his chosen mother would have been nearly 60 when last child was born! I have documentary proof that our 3Xgt grandfather was born in London but he is reluctant to give up the Devonshire line he has researched. Could be your Aussie relative have made a similar mistake?

My gr gran ann tunstall birkbeck 1858 have marriage cert father addison birkbeck found her baptism 1858 parents addison birkbeck mary tunstall found siblings simon mary peter elizabeth children of addison and mary. on first families found australian info on simon and peter who emigrated, i have been unable to contact the women, but did some aussie research to confirm the details. now she reckons addison's parents are alexander birkbeck and jane winn Todays marriage certificate 17 11 1849 durham addison burkbeck full age collier father joseph mary tunstall full age father simon tunstall now alexander birkbeck had a brother joseph MMMMM which i found on the igi so could she have the wrong father the burkbeck going to birkbeck i can understand as i have the daughters wed cert. Now i'm sure i'm on the right addison birkbeck /mary tunstall as the kids had tunstall as the middle name and simon tunstall brother is a witness on ann my gr gr gran wed cert. So what do you think could the aussie lady be on the right family and got alexander instead of his brother joseph sandra
