My earliest marriage is a Benjamin Robinson to Sarah Fruness on 27th Jan 1806 at St.Thomas Church Portsmouth. I have been to the Portsmouth Record Office to view the wedding and it is the old style where the fathers are not listed. Sarah was of the Parish but Benjamin was listed as what looks like HMS Le Tonnant. I cannot get back any further, so has anybody any suggestions as to where I can look now. Thanks. Jan

Just a thought, but when I looked at Sarah's surname it does look ripe for mistranscription, doesnt it. I have never known a Frueness but I have known Furness. I fed that surname into the familysearch IGI (which also has the marriage by the way) and up came dozens of Furness variations in Hampshire. Worth you checking them out.
