Help with possible Emigration

I am trying to fill in some gaps with a James Stamp born in 1851 I believe in Somerset - I have him on an 1871 census and then nothing. However I have found a reference on an 1881 census in Canada - he is the right age with a similar occupation. How do I go about finding out how and when he got to Canada to try and track him back to Somerset. Can anyone help?

If you want some help you should change your title and just put the name/and or/ Canada. With existing title people might think you are wanting help to emigrate yourself and are therefore perhaps not British. Pam
