My brick wall is my 4x great Grandfather George Greenley. I am almost sure of who his father was but can't find any documentation to prove it. He was married in 1797 by Banns. Would the banns give any indication as to who his father was or where he was born? And would they have been likely to have survived? Jeanette x |

Banns are very much luck of the draw as to whether or not they survived. They do sometimes give an occupation and do mention if bride or groom is of another named parish. I have never seen one that states parents, but sometimes the marriage witness gives a clue. |

Thanks Gwyneth Unfortunately the parish register for that year was missing so I found the marriage in the BT's - no witnesses stated. Although my 4x g grandfather was born in another parish, he had lived in the parish he was married in for some time. Thanks anyway Jeanette x |
