Sorry, probably didnt make it clear that St Mary's Blackburn is actually Blackburn Cathedral. I can confirm that these registers are held by Lancashire Records Office at Preston and that Blackburn Library also have copies, if you can't be doing with the Website - it would probably be quicker for you to walk to Blackburn than wait for the Web-page to change! The availability of LDS films of registers depends on whether or not the church in question was willing to allow their records to be used by the LDS. Many had reservations about the idea of allowing the LDS to attempt to convert their deceased parishioners retrospectively to Mormonism. Christine

HiC Blackburn Cathedral Registers have been partly transcribed on line, at pioneerinfo LAN-OPC St Marys Index, sorry youll have to add the other bits yourself, a you know what spot type thing in all the gaps I have left. Be warned though, this has to be the slowest site ever to get on the internet and you may possibly grow old and die whilst waiting for the page to change! Do look under the name Lightbown too, as that was the more usual spelling, especially if the couple hailed from Darwen, where many famous Lightbowns were born. Good luck Marjorie

The Registers are probably in the nearest Record Office rather than the church. As the IGI shows this marriage you should be able to order the film of the actual registers for a small fee and then view it at your nearest LDS centre. This would be perhaps the best option if you are not near Blackburn. A batch search of the IGI shows that there were several other marriages of people named WESTWELL or LIGHTBOUND in that parish, so you could view them too.

I have a date for the marriage for my GGG Grandparents and want to send for the certificate. As it was in 1833 how do I find out the details such as ref number and page number so I can send for the certificate? It is George Westwell and Jane Lightbound St Marys Blackburn 27/10/1833.
