Nell I've just had another look and there's High St on page before and page after but I've just noticed it's only MY family where it says Registration Station! I'm even more confused now - they must have been living there? Debby

Yes, but the enumerator was supposed to register who lived in each household, not have them all come to him in a hall somewhere. Maybe there's a clue at the beginning of the census for that village. nell

Peter He was a farm labourer - I just wonder if it was some kind of hall - a bit like polling stations of today? Debby

Could it be that there was a central clearing station for the Census, some were for the complete forms to be taken? and it was your relles place or buisness.

I've tried google but got nothing! If anyone wants to see the image it's 1891 Charles Baber aged 52 born Midsomer Norton, Somerset living with Mary & 4 children. Thanks Debby

I think its probably just a way of locating which bit of the High Street, though I am not sure what a registration station is. Which town was this High Street in, perhaps a look at a street directory might solve this mystery. nell

Nell It says continued at the top of the page - when it gets to my family it says High St (Registration Station) - it carries on down the page with ditto marks (?) until it changes to High St (Shop, Bakery & Butchers)!!! Debby

No. Are you sure that's what it says? Doesn't sound like an address - no one LIVED at a registration station. Whereabouts was this and what is the address for the neighbours either side of this family's entry? nell

I have an address on 1891 as High St Registration Station - do you think that means that the family went to register themselves rather than the enumerator knocking at their door? Debby
