Hi Jenny Do you have the two men already on your tree as brothers with the same father? Also, on the second [maternal] line that you have with the head being one of the brothers, do you now have two of him on your tree? If so, delete the one with no descendants and then go to his father and add him as son by choosing 'select existing individual' rather 'add new individual'. Hope that makes sense?! Lynne x

Hi Everyone, My problem now is how do I link these people in my family trees, the one on this site and my PAF file at home. I have been merrily tracing back through different lines and now find that they merge. Problem is the common ancestor is already on my system and I can't get my head round how to link them. On the PAF the line goes back following one line where I have father-son-father-son etc. The other line I have traced back through maternal lines and eventually ended up back with my two brothers (both with the same father). Should I add the father again so that the line will be complete in each case? Hope you all follow this....not sure I can. Jenny

Hi, I'm descended from siblings as well. A 4x gt grandmother and a 5x gt grandfather were brother and sister - on my Dad's side. On Mum's side two gt x 2 grandmothers were sisters. Gwynne

Hi Jennifer Perhaps this is a Suffolk thing ..................... My Ling rellies from Blaxhall in Suffolk had the habit of marrying other Blaxhall Lings, whose children went on to marry Blaxhall Lings .............. quite worrying the way they shrunk the gene pool ................ explains a lot about my family too, ha ha!

Hi Everyone, I suppose in tight knit communities such as my ancestors lived in it would be usual to marry into other llong established local families and throughout the years their genes would have been well and truly mixed. When I look at the various census the same family names appear regularly. Jenny

Hello, In c.1886 my grt grandfather married his cousin Emily and so I have 2 grt grt grandfathers who were brothers, which at least has the advantage of reducing the potential number of ancestors! I think it happened a lot more often in the past than now & as far as I can tell, we've all turned out more or less normal, but then I would say that wouldn't I!! Helen

I've not had that situation arise as yet. the strangest I know of is a relative marrying his dead wife's brother's widow - as requested in his dead wife's brother's will.

Just discovered that I have ancestral grandfathers that were brothers. I am researching the COCKSEDGE name and as well as discovering there are lots of them in Suffolk, I think I am probably related to them all. I have found that in the particular area of Suffolk they come from all the families married each other over and over again. The two brothers in question had the same father born 1694. They brothers both married and produced children who also married and prodduced children who married and produced and then proceeded to marry each other. Talk about interbreeding - no wonder I am daft!! Anyone else come across this. Jenny
