Just had a look at the 1871 and it just says Yorkshire - how inconsiderate is that! lol

I'm really enjoying this - I should have done it ages ago instead of spending 5 hours with an atlas and magnifying glass. I agree with all the comments but I suspect one of the servants gave the details! This chap was the founder of MArshall and Snelgrove (now the Debenhams group) in Oxford Street!! Keep suggesting please - I will follow them all up 1871 just says Yorkshire (as do all the records for his sister) and I don't have access to the 1851 and 1861 for Hendon/ Mill Hill area Thanks again Sylvie

There is a Tilford Sylvia - but it's in Surrey! Might be worth asking for an 1861 look up to see what it says on there. Cheers Glitter! :-)

Thanks both of you and to colin who emailed. The 1891 looks like Tilford - is there a place similar to that near Kirkburn please? Sylvie

Just had a look at the 1891 again and it looks like Telford to me! The only place around the Kirkburn area ending in ...ford is Wansford. Did you notice the comment in the disabilities column? Does that say senile!
