Any fresh ideas would be appreciated! This is what I have: James Thomas Brown *married 25 Dec 1906 age 25 *occupation at marriage - fitter *fathers name Thomas (deceased at 1906) *fathers occupation (on marriage certificate of James) - Stevedore *died 29 January 1931 That's it, that's all I have don't know where he was born, what his mothers name was. Have ordered a couple of certificates but have both been the wrong person I have one family that 'could' be who I'm looking for but with a name like Brown I don't want to jump to conclusions!! Would anyone like to tell me what they think Please. Thanks Shirley

where was the marriage ? maiden name of wife ? which one died in 1931 ? which of these have you considered ? Where was he living at the time of the marriage?

Ooops Sorry forgot that VERY vital piece of info!! marriage took place in Bethnal Green, London to Margaret Clements b 1883 Whitechapel, London. James Thomas Brown died in Mile End, London in 1931 (Thomas died before 1906 and Margaret in 1916) thanks!

Do the names of the marriage witnesses help at all? Could they be names you could research?

I was going to add the 1891 family from Poplar. The father is a boiler breaker and from Sunderland a big ship building area at thaat time

good point - Thomas was named as a stevedore, is that shipbuilding / cranes dunno .... nope, not really - just a dock worker. T h i n k this is the same family in 1901, Thomas right age, different pob - occupation Dock Labourer ..... James also - not a good match for 'fitter' on MC tho ... still another 5 years before marriage ... Not sure as there was no wife present in 1891, and this lot do not have many names in common. Thanks to everyone for looking. Laird. Yes, that's the family I am swinging towards (but didn't want to jump on with all my heart just because they looked right! :)) and yes that is the bride to be. Sarah, looked at the witnesses (Ellen McDonogh and William Kriehn) and have found them both on the 1901 census but I think they were just friends. Linda -there could be connection there, wasn't too sure on the boiler breaker occupation :) Thanks to you all, now I know I'm on the right track and not missing something!! Shirley
