Does anyone have an idea of how I could trace my G.G.Grandfather who was born in Swansea Wales in 1816 - name of David Griffiths, yes I know it's like trying to find a Jones or a Davies ! I have tried all the sources I normally use aand would welcome any others I can search, thanks Audrey in Niagara Falls, Canada

Audrey, you think you have a problem?!!! My new found (adopted) half Sister has asked me if I can find her Welsh birth father! wait for it..... His name is IVOR!!! All we have on him is...he was a big brute of a man with black hair. He worked on a building site in Abbots Langley UK back in 1951. Anyone that can come up with this one gets the all time GOLD brownie point! lol Gerri x PS.....I found my REAL father in Canada when in my 40s. Im 56 now. LOVE Niagara in the winter :o))) x

Don't have his Wife's name Georgina. he had a Daughter in 1851 called Elizabeth and she married my G.Grandfather from Cardiff. Gerry-best of luck with the Ivor name !!! You wouldn't like Niagara at the moment, we have had a ton of snow and now it's turning Black as it's warming up here.

Have you got Elizabeth's marriage certificate, does it show any more GRIFFITHS? They might help you find the family in 1851. If you can find the family in 1861 and 1851 you could find the wife's name. You will need to confirm that she is the mother of Elizabeth by buying the daughter's birth certificate. Hopefully if David was still fathering children in 1851, he will have married in registration times. Once you know who he married( from Elizabeth's birth certificate), you should be able to find David's marriage certificate and thereby find his father's name. This will give some lead to finding his birth/baptism record. I have DAVIES and JONES in the Welsh part of my tree so I do sympathise.
