I am sure I have seen this subject on here before, I am convinced I have a bigamist within the family. How would I confirm this? Linda

Maz Would that confirm they divorced, we know that Honesty was not always the best policy, in the 1800`s Linda

Linda Very, very unlikely that they divorced in the 1800s, unless they were wealthy people. Every Divorce required a separate Act of Parliament, which was a costly and time-consuming procedure. Death or Bigamy are far more likely answers. Marjorie

Linda, I have the same thing. I bourght both certificates just to cheak and he said he was a batchular on both which I find susptious. I would have thought that he'd have said widower if the first wife had died before the second marriage.

Marjorie I agree, since I have been doing this research I have discovered that lies was certainly the way forward, for example in many of the census they claim to be married but the certs define otherwise. I know this family could not afford a divorce. So the Bigamy trail appears more obvious. I can evidence my Grt grandmother has lied on the birth and death certs of her son. So its clear nothing was checked. Linda
