Thank you everyone. I have registered with Scotlandspeople, but amwaiting for them to send me an e-mail with my password so that I can buy some credits. i thought these things were usually instant! - Taking ages - will have to wait til the morning I guess. Alice

Hi Alice, your lucky to have found a 1855 Scottish birth, as that was the first year of registration in Scotland and 1855 birth certs give more information than any other year after it. It will tell you both the father and mothers age at the time of the birth, where they were born and where and when married, and also how many other children they have! Pity they didn't continue to give as much info after 1855, it would have made all our searching so much easier! Christine
