I paid my money on 1837online but cannot view the images. I've downloaded the plugin and installed it ( the right one for the OS9) but they keep telling me to download the plugin. Has anyone else had this trouble? Teresa

Hi Teresa, You don't seem to be getting a flood of replies so I thought I'd see if I could find some possible solutions, although I use Linux, not Mac. It looks like Lizardtech stopped working on the OS9 version at least 18 months ago, since the only way I could find of locating the OS9 version was from the 1837online download page. Still, other people do seem to have got it working. Apparently to find out if the plugin has installed properly you should look in the /plug-ins folder of your browser. If you haven't already done so, work through the instructions on this page http://www.1837online(.)com/Trace2web/help/DjVuProblems/cannotdownload/formacs.jsp (remove brackets) and see if that fixes the problem. If it doesn't ... the Lizardtech support page which 1837online suggest contains nothing useful, so you will have to hassle 1837online direct or else find a Mac OS9 user who has the plugin working - apparently some people have managed to get it working simply by copying the file from the /plug-ins folder on one machine to the other. I have a friend with an imac OS9 - I could try and a cash in a favour. I had a similar problem with Scotland's People site when I tried to download an image - I've no idea what format it was but it just resulted in a blank screen, so I just used the remainder of my £6 up on searches. Not an option with 1837online, unfortunately... Good luck! Malcolm

Thankyou for your reply. I'll try your suggestion and let you know what happens. I did install it and I know that it works on other websites but not on 1837. I downloaded it again from their site and installed it but no luck. I really do think that these sites that take your money and then don't work for you should have some kind of warning. I also paid money on familyrelatives .co.uk and their site didn't work. Thankyou for your interest. Teresa

Just to let you know the result. I received an email from 1837.com asking me to phone them, I did so and they told me that at the moment they could not get the images for me but that they are hoping to change their viewing plugin as Lizard have stopped supporting the viewer for OS9 They said they hope to get a new viewing system in about a month and have refunded my money. I'll just have to be patient. So annoying as they look to have some really relevent things on their site. Thanks for your help. Teresa

Hmm.. , it's a pity they're thinking of changing it, as it's a far faster way of sending image files than anything else I've come across. I stopped using BMDindex as soon as my £5 ran out because of the agony of waiting for the image files to drip along the phone line. Since the plugin for OS9 works on other websites, I wonder why 1837online can't just use pages that are compatible with OS9

Hello Theresa, I have a mac and use OS9. I had the same problem with 1837online. Here's what I did... start again...... download the plug-in as you have been doing, make sure you unstuff it if it appears as a .sit file, which it can do. Once it's on the desktop, restart your machine straight away (before touching anything else!!), and then go back into 1837online, and hey presto!! It worked for me. It's well worth the persiverance, it's a great site, and not a con at all..trust me! Good luck, let me know how you get on.
