Helen, send me the image and I'll send it back done. You need to save the image in a folder as a Jpeg. Then open it up in Paint. I then use the Rubber facility to whiten out a certain amount of Black, and then copy and paste that bit over the other black bits I want removing. It now takes me about 3 - 5 mins to do a complete image, but will take longer when first learning how to do it. I'll help if you want ! It leaves the image as its exact size but just saves on Black ink when printing ! Elaine ;-) DERRRR.... just realized the origional request if a month or two old !!!!!!!! |

Hello Nell I usually import the picure of the image into publisher - or any desk top publishing prog will do I guess. then you can use the tools to edit the image by cropping off the black border. Fit the image to the pge and print. hope that makes sense alice |

Thank you both. I mean editing images that have been sent as attachments in e-mail - I have only got a window that comes up with 'Paint' in it and can't see how to alter the image size either. nell |

Hi Nell What i do, is save the image (eg smith family 1871 census) then open my documents and right click on the saved image. It should say 'open with' choose photo editor. Then in photo editor, click on the square dotted line, and 'cut' just the image, leaving the black border. Then click on edit and 'paste as new image' then you save that new image. Then you can print it. It may seem a bit long winded, but it works for me. Sandra |

Hi Nell Presumably you mean in Ancestry? And on the Advanced viewer? On the bottom right hand side of the screen, where the 'print' and 'magnify' options are, there is another one labelled 'select'. This gives you a little arrow - click on this and position it in the top left corner of the image, then drag to select the portion of the image that you require (ie without all the black edging!). Once you've got your selection, click on the print icon. Before selecting 'ok', go into properties and select 'landscape' as you normally would, then also choose 'selection' instead of 'entire image' - then click on 'ok'. Now you're not much good with computerspeak and I'm not too good at giving instructions ...... so please don't be afraid to say if this doesn't make sense, and I'll get my hubby on the case! Mandy :) |

Hi, Technotypes! How can I get rid of all the black background before printing census images? I am trying to conserve my printer ink, haha! Please can you make your instructions very clear, I am not very well versed in computerspeak. nell |
