Never thought the might be something amiss with it! The family did have many tragedies so you never know. I'll check back.

Amanda If you did need a death cert to bury people then (and I would think that you did), do you think that it might be worth going back another year, in case it was a suspicious death and they had to wait to bury him? Still seems a long time though. Chrissie

Just thought . Would you not have to have a death certificate for a burial to take place? Im sure you do now but back in 1921? Dont think it would of been recorded in the newspapers for the area.

Thanks Chrissie. Dont really know where to go apart from the records office and Im thinking they may only have the similar indexes as my library has. Been to the grave surprise ,surprise no head stone to help either.

Amanda Your right - you have a problem :)) I looked at all the pages with Peper and Pepper on - 1921/1922. I also looked at all the Mathews on the pages. I also looked Oct 21 to March 22 at the Piper and Pipper and all the Mathews on those pages as well. Nothing looking remotely likely - sorry. Chrissie

LOL! Chrissie I can only see Mathew Pepper born 1841 & 1861, neither of which would make him 65 in the year stated above Sam

Have you found his birth (approx 1856?). This would tell you whether they had supplied you with the correct death date. Chrissie oops sorry - just taken in Sammys reply:))

Amanda Did his age at death correspond with his birth? Do you know when he was born? Just wondering, if you were given only one burial date, maybe he died before his wife, and that's the date she was buried, in a joint plot Sam

Good point. Perhaps going local would help.

If you think he died locally you could ask the local register office to have a gander. It's extremely likely that he died within a few days of burial so they have a good idea where to look. Not all records got as far as the GRO. nell

Trying to find the death index for my gt grandfather MATHEW PEPPER. He died in Gosport and was buried at Anns Hill Cemetery, I wrote to them back in 2003 and they kindly sent his and wifes details with grave location but he had no death date but did have burial date of 6 Jan 1922 aged 65. I have checked 1837 several times in 1921 and 1922 with various surname spellings but cant seem to find him. Can anyone help please?
