Just to confirm, I had a look at the map and the A272 runs through Wisborough Green to Billingshurst. The bit where it goes into Billingshurst is called Newbridge Road. nell

Thanks to everyone who replied to my query. I thinks this confirms that Newbridge is close to Wisborough and the two Janes are probably the same person. Les Harris

I just Googled and saw reference to the A272 at Newbridge and another reference to the River Arun at Newbridge. I can see both on my road atlas so it would seem that Newbridge is between Wisborough Green and Billinghust, so quite close really.

I tried www*streetmap*co*uk [replace * with .] for Newbridge, E Sussex and it had an arrow near Colman's Hatch - but the place wasn't named on the map. Colman's Hatch is about 5 miles south of East Grinstead. Wisborough Green is on the A272 about 3 miles west of Billingshurst. A rough estimate is that Newbridge and Wis. Grn are about 20 miles apart. nell

I had a look in my husband's OS gazetteer and could find only these in Sussex: Newbridge E Sussex TQ4532 New Bridge E Sussex TQ6209 Newbridge Wood E Sussex TQ6427 You can put those 6-character map-refs into the Get-a-map search slot and it will show you where that ref is. You can then zoom out to see what's around. http://www.ordnancesurvey.*co.uk/oswebsite/getamap/ (remove *) Christine

According to the 1871 census an ancestor, Jane Muggeridge, was born c 1841 at Newbridge,Sussex. Another member has suggested that this is the same person as Jane Muggride, baptised 7.11.1841 at Wisborough Green, Sussex which I think is probable but I would like to know where Newbridge is. I can't find it on a standard road atlas but it may be only a small hamlet or even just a farm. Can anyone help and if they can is it near Wisborough Green. Les Harris
