That's a tricky one! lol I know here on GR it does give you the option to tick a box if you are not quite sure of the date so it will come out eg. c1881 instead of a definite 1881. I suppose the best bet would be to take a stab at the date and tick the box! lol Jeanette x

Claire, how long ago did you put your details on? They say it takes 24 hours to check for smartmatches but some people have waited several days.

just one more quick question..... if i don't know the year that they were born and can't even make a guess, what should i put in? i've seen threads on here pointing out probs with dates on peoples trees and i don't want to do the same. c x

Claire To ammend any details go to Immediate Family on the left, click until you find the person whose details you want to alter, Click on that name so it appears at the top of the page. You should now have an Edit facility. Just a word of caution, if you have got any living peeps named in your tree, make sure you remove them before you do any downloading and uploading if you don't want them to appear on Gencircles Jeanette x

You should still be able to contact the person who inputted the same name without having a 'smart match'

Hi Claire Do you have your tree on here? You could remove your tree from Gencircles then download your tree from GR and upload it onto Gencircles with the details ammended Jeanette x

Hi Judith, that could possibly be it. the only problem is that i don't know how to ammend the details of my people when they are on the website and the software that i use for my tree doesn't have the facility to put info like that on. I'm having to wait for my b'day (june!!) so that i can have Family Tree maker! c x

Could it be that you have entered slightly different details for him - a different place or year of birth perhaps ?

I recently discovered the Gencirles web site and found that a member on their had my GG Grandfather on there, so i decided to register and upload my tree onto it so that they could match us up and i could hopefully contact him. After wating for them to upload my details and do the 'Smartmatching' thing that they do it says that there are no matches! How is this possible when i know that there is one?..... Confused...Claire
