The Watford observer would have bee the local paper - you can bet it would be reported if it was the ROYAL train, possibly not if it was a Royal MAIL train. www.hertfordshire-genealogy.co.uk/ data/websites/watford-observer.htm might be able to help you, or just e-mail the newspaper direct jess x

Hi Brenda My first thought was ouch! but that's not too helpful! I would imagine something like that would have been covered in the local papers, possibly even the Nationals if it was the Royal Train involved. I'd try contacting the nearest main library to where it happened as they usually have old newspapers on fiche that can be looked at Lou

Iam trying to find out about the death of my Great Grandfather Thomas Gates who was a plate layer and was killed on the railway at Watford possibly hit by the Royal Train or maybe royalmail!round about 1897.Would this have been mentioned in the local paper? or where can I find out about this?
