Richard, I can't say for certain if this is the same census as Ancestry, but this morning while looking at the Northamptonshire census I came across a missing ancestor who is not on Ancestry. So, for me it worked. I have downloaded the surname index, if you want to give me a list of the surnames you are searching for and which county you think they are in and I will have a look for you. Sam.

Sam, Crista Is this the same data that is on Ancestry, who also have a partial 1851 index? Ancestry claim that their database is 'an index to approximately 10% of the individuals enumerated in the 1851 census of the United Kingdom' - however the one that you mention above claims to be only 2%. I somehow doubt that Ancestry 1851 covers 10% - at least, I haven't found a single one of my names on there! Richard

You can also access a partial 1851 England census here: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.*com/~bewickgenealogy/census/alpha.htm I think it's the same data but you don't have to download it. Crista

This site is excellent, it has most of the counties in England, Scotland, Wales and parts of Ireland. You can download the census of your choice very easily, but remember it is a partial survey your ancestors may not be on there, but it is always worth a try. Before you start downloading counties I would advise you to download the surname index first, to see if your names are actually on there. http://web.ukonline(.)co(.)uk/sheila.jones/51ceninfo.htm Good luck Happy hunting! Sam.
