Familyrelatives is the one to use if you're looking for relatives between 1866 and 1920 as it's fully transcribed. Outside that time frame, searching is the same as 1837online. Crista

And with Family Relatives if there's no entries matching the name you want it tells you. You would have to pay to view each quarter on 1837 just to find out that nothing is there that matches Lou

As Ive already said - Familyrelatives when it gets over its teething probs will be brilliant. I find 1837 a tedious slog and often spend a fortune and find nothing. With familyrelatives you put in a name, a time scale and an area and it brings transcripts up for you to view with the references and you can then choose to view the actual entries. It is a much superior search to 1837.

I've never used FamilyRelatives, but this is the scale of charges. Units seem to cost 10p each. Category Description *Unit cost* Period 1. Per transcribed Search Results page *2* 1866-1920 1984-2002 2. Viewing a full image in grayscale *4* 1866-1920 3. Search results page non-transcribed pages *FREE* 1921-1983 4. Viewing a non-transcribed full image in grayscale *2* 1921-1983 In the GRO site, units cost 9p each (£5 for 55) and *one* unit will let you see a page. The indexes started in 1837 of course.

Searching in a word. 1837 isnt a true search .... Family Rels is a better implementation, but not like Ancestry searches yet ...
