Chrissie Just stuck 'em in front of the Tweenies for 10 mins so will have a look now. Also worth bearing in mind is that on the 1841 it doesn't state relationship to the head of the house. Ann might not have been their daughter, she could be a niece who happened to be there for census night! Lou

Yes, I think it will be a case of going to the Records Office for the 1861. I think it is only computerised on 1837Online and that only covers the London area at the moment.

Thank you Angela. That probably explains the ages then. So for 1861 I would have to go to the Matlock Records Office? I went once and found 1851 and 1871 but I ran out of time on the machine and I'm not sure they had 1861. Thanks again - Chrissie

Ancestry doesn't yet have any census data before 1871. Don't forget that on the 1841 census the ages for adults were rounded down to the nearest 5 below, so someone listed as 25 could be 29.

I am going tomorrow on a mini meet of a branch of my tree – the WHETTONS and would like to check a couple of things if possible before I go. Firstly I would like to find them on 1861 to give me a better idea when the mother died as John was a widower by 1871 . Also, a few days ago, someone was kind enough to find them on 1841 for me but it raised a few questions. The family on 1851 are:- Living in Clay Cross Derbyshire where they stayed. John Whetton 42 (b c1808) born in Leicestershire Ann “ 40 (b c1810) “ “ Joseph (son) 16 “ “ Louisa 14 “ Clay Cross, Derbyshire James 12 “ “ George 10 “ “ Henry 8 “ “ Mary 6 “ “ Charles 4 “ “ Thomas 5 months “ “ In 1841, the family which was found fit, except that John and Ann are both listed as 25 and should be 32 and 30. They also have a daughter Ann 8 who has gone by 1851 (could have married or be in service) but Joseph, Louisa and James are all there at the right age. I am now curious about Ann (the daughter) as I didn’t know of her until a few days ago. Can anyone suggest anything please. I haven’t got Ancestry yet – would it have Derbyshire on for 1841 and 1861? I know that 1837 haven’t got Derbyshire 1861 on yet. Thanks to all those who haven’t fallen asleep by now !! Chrissie
