Missing - Uncle Kit - Where to look next?

Can anyone suggest where I can look next for my missing relative. Christopher Wood Taylorson, b1863. On every census with his mother Charlotte Taylorson upto 1891 in Durham. Then he disappears. I have been unable to trace any marriage or death for him. My mother (b 1903) spoke about her Uncle Kit - so if this was him he must have been around up to about 1910. But I can't find him (neither he nor his mother are on the 1901 census and she didn't die until 1910 - so they could have been hiding together) I guess he was too old to join the army. I would be grateful for any suggestions of where else to search.

Have you tried Tylorson or some other miss spelling. It would not be the first one in the BDMs

There is the death registration of 3 years old Mary Woods TAYLORSON in West Ham December Q. 1894 on freebmd. Any connection? Also On webfamily site there is 1999 death recorded of William Wood Taylorson, b. 1919. ( found by Google search for Wood Taylorson)

Hi Cheryl, It might have been mistranscribed on the 1901 census. Have you tried looking under Wood, the enumerator my have thought it was a hyphernated last name. The only other suggestion I can make is have a look at the trade directories round about 1901 or even later, for the town or county where you think he was living and see if you can find him. If you think that he was still living with his mother, then try and find her name. These directories are an excellent way of finding someone, they usually list everyone who was living in the area and give an address and occupation. Mary

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Peter, I have tried other spellings of Taylerson, but I hadn't tought of Tylerson - I'll try that. Gwyneth, I don't think the West Ham connection is likely, but I'll try anything. The William Wood Taylorson looks more hopeful - I hadn't thought of googling Wood Taylorson Charlotte was born c1825 in Hurworth on Tees, Co Durham. Christopher born 1861 In 1871 the family, along with Charlotte's husband Richard and Emily (my grandmother) were in Hurworth 1881 they were still in Hurworth, but by this time Richard had died. In 1991 Charlotte and Christopher lived together in New Shildon - with Emily and her husband living next door. 1901 Emily, husband and son Alfred still in New Shildon - Charlotte and Christopher - who knows Mary - thanks for the tip about Trade Directories - I didn't realise they listed everyone - I thought they were just businesses. Where would I find them? Thanks again everyone Chery;

Trade directories are usually found in the local library, but if you don't live anywhere near to where your uncle may have lived, then try www.historicaldirectories.org. Mary

Hi Cheryl Have you tried looking at the image on 1901? I had almost given up on finding my grandmother & great aunt. When I looked at the image where I found their mother I found both of them a couple of doors along. Badly mistranscribed. Vivienne Lyla You have a wicked sense of humour
