Try to track him back through each census and look for a marriage record for him as well as looking for his children.

i have got as far as finding my ancestor john quigley on the 1901 census, all it shows is that he was 56yrs old so born in 1845 place of birth ireland, i believe the area to be cork but that is only heresay within the family, please could someone advise the best route now to take to get hold of irish records thanks
