im trying to trace my fathers family, but have nothing to go on except his name. how do i start and where can i look |

You may be able to trace him/older brothers or sisters back through the census' if he had any and you know any of their names. If you don't know your dads fathers given name you could try going back through the census using your dads name, sometimes like mine, names were passed down the generations and then you may be able to cross reference dates, common names etc. Hope that makes sense! Some of those on the message boards that do look ups may be of help, they have been to me. Good Luck in your search. PS Don't give up to soon, it's taken me a year on and off to get the info I needed. |

If you know a date of birth, order a copy of his cert, and work your way back from there. That will give you an address and name to start with. Julie |

How's it going? Has any of the info helped? Sometimes you may have to do rough guess of years etc going back from your age, dads age that he would have been on the 1901 census etc. I'm sure those more experienced would know a better way, I'm only a newbie but it helped me eventually!! |
