It took me ages to find my Nan's Uncle Non who she always assumed was Algernon. Finally turns out he was called William Albert, know as Albert, shortened to Al, nicknamed Algernon, shortened to Non!!! Good job he was the only Englishman named Gurney who served in the Canadian Army in WW1 or I never would have found him.

I know the feeling. I've spent two years searching for my Aunt Amelia's birth and death info....only to discover that she was called Eileen Amelia and had been staring at me all the time! When we went back to my aunt her sister and said 'Could she have been called Eileen?' she said 'Oooh possibly'

Yes Val I think we've all had that sort of help from rellies! lol Having said that, my Grandad told me that his Dad always called his Mum Polly Mann but he didn't know why. His Mum was called Mary Hale - or at least she was on her wedding and birth certs. So why then is she called Mary Mann on the censues? lol Jeanette x

I have been looking for a rellie who I was reliably informed by her sister was born 3rd May hence her name May didnt know the year ,well I took forever to find her now have birth cert and guess what she was born 5th March . Also another who was definitely called Harry who I could not find then I remembered Prince Harry's real name is Prince Henry so looked and there he was Henry. I could list loads but am sure you have all come across a similar thing . thank goodness for living rellies eh???????????
