I personally would look where the first child was born----usually just before[ or after] the birth of the first child.

If you think they were married in Devon, try the Devon FHS website as they have indexed marriages 1754 - 1837.

Hi Josephine You could look on the familysearch.org site, which is run by the Latter Day Saints. Do an IGI search and input what details you have. The IGI is made up of parish records etc, many of which predate 1837 registration. There are some errors though, so don't assume it is all 100% accurate. You could also visit the archives relevent to where you are looking and look up the parish records. Personally I do a bit of both. First look it up on the IGI and then confirm it by viewing the originals. Not everything is on the IGI though and sometimes it's down to pure hard slog trawling through the local records. Good luck Kate :)

I have managed to get back to my husband's great great grandfather born in 1810 and I know his wife's name born 1816. Their first child was born 1836 so presumably they were married before that. I was fine with the registration indexes but have no idea what to do next now I am pre 1837. Can someone tell me what the next step is. I think they were married in either Southmouth, Devon (his birth place) or Launceston, Cornwall (her birthplace). thanks
