In the days when the IGI was produced on fiche, by county, large chunks of info were omitted from one of the updates. It was suggested that these entries did not get reinstated and the early fiche editions were kept because of that. Norfolk and Devon are two counties where the Mormons have been refused permission to film the registers. Again, this is a historic situation and I'm not up to date on any changes that may have occurred, but everything I've seen for those two counties comes from transcriptions and not original sources. Many parishes aren't covered at all (Norfolk being one) and some only for some dates. Hugh Wallis' batch numbers site -google to find - will tell you which parishes are covered and for which dates. There are also some other peculiarities - for example the Farnham Royal baptisms are girls only, no boys and I believe this is true for several other parishes too. nell

Myth handed down says that if the children died as infants, they were not transcribed. I have NEVER found this in batch transcriptions, since it implies you are considering every entry, but I suppose someone must have done. If you DID start omitting on that basis, then you are bound to get it wrong sometimes.

I had a couple of children's baptisms missing from one of my families, who I knew from Census records definately existed. Found out in the end that their church was closed for a few years for restoration (rebuilding?) and they had to use another parish.

The IGI isn't complete. Not all years are covered. Apparently because of the way the registers were split up to be transcribed, more females are in the IGI than males.
