Bastardy Order - 1920's?

If you Google 'Bastardy Orders' you will find a number of sites showing where records are kept and in some cases these can be viewed on-line (however seem to be old and not a large number). These are from Court Records. It will also show that Bastardy Orders were still being issued until the 1960's - and probably still are!! I won't attempt to put websites on here as it largely depends on which area you are looking at. For instance Lincolnshire and Alnwich are two where some orders can be viewed on line. Kathleen

I think it would have been the local poor law guardians who would have enforced payment. Their power was handed over to local authorities in 1930. I think you'd be best to start with the local records office and seek their advice. nell

Looking at some other threads for this topic - I wonder would they still have had Bastardy records in 1920? The ones mentioned seem to go back much further in time. My father was born in 1920, his father was a soldier, probably a Scots Guard at Windsor, but he never knew his name. When dad was older he used to be sent to collect maintenence money from the barracks, I suppose some sort of Court order would have been made against his father as he seemed to have paid up for quite a few years. Any idea where I would start to look for records, was this a church thing or to do with the Courts? Any ideas? Thanks, Jackie
