You can add her to trying to find - temporarily add her as a second wife to someone, for instance (remembering where you've put her), then put her on Trying to find, then go back to tree and delete her. Its a lot of faffing about but it works jess

Elizabeths dad had died, but Elizabeths brother was taken & raised by an aunt & uncle, my grandma knew the brother but had never been told about Elizabeth even though her parents would have known. George

I'm not related to any Betts, but reading your thread, i thought the most probabel reson for her to do that is becuse she was NOT her dughter. Was Ellen Widowd? if so she might of felt that she had no responsibility towards the girl, and was holding here back from getting a new life.

If you know a person with the surname Bett or are one yourself who came from Middlesbrough then I really need to hear from you. My ggg grandads sister in law Ellen Miles married a John Bett in late 1901 in Middlesbrough, their descendants may be able to help me in understanding why Ellen sent her stepdaughter Elizabeth Griffin to the workhouse/Nazareth House and then onto Canada as a British Home Child, . Thank you George Ps I have put this on two boards as I know there are members who only look at this one. Can't add it to Trying to find as the surname is not in my tree.
