Hi Bernard, glad to see you are well on the way to finding your ancester....we were in touch some time ago. Rosemary's find is brilliant. If that couple are not on the 1881 census , this would strengthen the possibility that he is your man. Good luck. Joan

Bernard, do you know whereabouts in England William came from? Have you tried freebmd, ancestry and family search websites? and looked for a similar sounding name? Just a couple of thoughts which you may have already tried, good luck,

Bernard

Just in case anyone hasn't seen this request before, here we go again. My ggf William Seeling left England in 1874 for New Zealand on the ''woodlark''.I have the passenger list with his name on it.He was recorded as being 34 years old.Since I cannot find him on the 1871 census I was wondering if records of info. regarding passengers which I assume would be collected by the shipping company, would be still available to view.If so, where would I look? I have a ''William'' in the 1771 census but he is recorded as 50 years old,Just 20 years out! could this possibly be him?Would this person have a recorded history? He may have been German!!! Any advice on the subject will gratefully received. Bernardo in NZ.
